The 5 Best Releases of July

The 5 Best Releases of July

July was a busy month for us here. Not only did we release a major feature - sales & coupons, but we also launched our tipping (donations) feature as well and revamped our About page with content you can use for your promotions. Our sellers also contributed to some fantastic products, let's take a look at our 5 favorites:

1. Perspective Tools v2

Perspective Tools v2 for Photoshop CC is one of those extensions that should definitely be part of the base program. It allows to create perspective and parallel grids in one click, easily transform layers in perspective, unwrap perspective distortion to a plane and it makes for an incredible number of other uses depending on how much imagination you have. It's an absolute must-have for any concept artist and anyone who ever needed to use the transform/wrap tools.

The author has been updating the extension frequently which is great to see since we can expect it to get even better over time. It wouldn't be surprising to see this fully implemented in future versions of Photoshop - it would just make a lot of sense. For now though, we're happy to use this instead - fantastic tool.

2. GestureDrawing!

GestureDrawing! is a handy app inspired by the famous online gesture drawing tools Pixelovely and Quickposes, but with the main difference being that it let's you use your own image collections (put to good use all that reference images on your computer!). Just point it to a folder on your computer and it will scan it and it's sub-folders for images. Then, select a session type that fits you (practice, class or relaxed) and it will shuffle your images and present them one after another for the specified amount of time.

GestureDrawing! is the closest thing to having a live model session in your studio, whenever you want. We've been playing with it a lot and you can find a demonstration Marc did here:

Since that video, the author updated the app with some more functions and even added 500 free reference photos to help get you started. This should be a no-brainer-instant-purchase for all artists out there!

3. Creature Production

This monster tutorial by Michael Pavlovich features over 18 hours (you read that right!) of content covering both the creation of a highly detailed alien character in ZBrush and the creation of the PBR game model for the same creature. As a bonus, there are also a ton of videos covering posing in ZBrush, rendering, compositing in Photoshop and even a section on 3D printing and how to get the best prints for your models.

This series is perfect for beginner artists all the way to professional artists thanks to Michael's incredibly deep knowledge of each programs he uses - you are bound to learn something new. There are very few who know their tools like he does and all character artists should have this gem of a series in their library. Watch the full introduction here to see what this series is about in more details:

4. 3D Visualization for Beginners

In this 4-days-planned workshop by professional teacher and artist Widhi Muttaqien, you'll be taken through the entire creation of an interior (pictured above) scene for 3D visualization. Using a combination 3dsMax, Corona renderer and Photoshop, you should be ready to start working in the visualization industry once you complete the lesson - that's how good this is.

This course is perfectly suited for beginners who never touched 3dsMax before since everything is covered to get you up to speed with the program - skills you will be able to use for a slew of other types of 3D tasks, from animation to character modelling. It's also very suitable for veteran Max users who want to explore the new Corona rendering engine and learn how to create beautiful interior scenes. We loved to follow along and couldn't recommend this course enough!

5. 1971 Saigon Office (Retro Office Environment) UE4

Clinton Crumpler is back in our favorites list with this new UE4 scene of a retro Military office set in Saigon, Vietnam - August 1971. The project includes everything pictured with all assets, materials, and vfx created in the Unreal Engine. Each asset is created for realistic AAA quality visuals, style, and budget but what we really can't pass on is the price for the amount of content you get. With over 90 props going into the construction of the scene and the many materials and textures - it's a complete steal at $55.

It's more common to find individual props for that price, which says it all. We absolutely love the mood and how well the post processing captures the time-period of the scene. Imagine this room in a video game or perhaps a VR version of it... we want to get in there!
