3D Scanning Using Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry is a 3D scanning method which is based on taking 2D images of an object from different angles. We then process those 2D images using different applications to create a 3D model and a color texture.

This method of scanning will be illustrated in this guide by processing a small falcon statue.

First, we will start by covering the most optimal conditions that will be needed when taking images for photogrammetry.

Next, we will process and convert the RAW images to be used in Agisoft Photoscan.

In Photoscan, we will create our base high resolution 3D model; that base 3D model will then be refined in ZBrush. Once that is done, we will return to Photoscan to project the colour texture on the model.

Even though each step in this guide is explained in detail, basic knowledge of the applications is advised.

In this guide we will use Photoshop, Agisoft Photoscan, and ZBrush.

The RAW images for the falcon statue are included in this guide so you may easily follow the process from start to finish.
